Tomorrow, May 18, is Ascension Day, which always falls forty days after Easter.  As Christians, we believe Jesus died on the cross, rose from the dead three days later, and spent the next forty days teaching his followers.  Then, according to Luke…..”lifting up his hands, he blessed them,… and while he blessed them, he departed from them, and ascended into heaven …”

On Sunday, May 21, we will celebrate this very special event, as well as commemorate our church’s namesake.  Before Jesus ascended, he gave his disciples a mission, a mission that is held for us all today as true disciples - to go forth and proclaim the Gospel of love, hope, and peace.

  • It is time once again to give thanks to those who operate the equipment for on-line streaming that enables so many to be part of our church services even when they aren’t able to attend in person.  It is a wonderful ministry.
  • Thanks also to those who have signed up to be summer readers.  If you would like to be on the list, just sign up at the entrance to the church or call the church office at 368-5693.
  • There is still room in the food bank box at the entrance to the church.  Thanks so much for all who help!
  • All are welcome to the Confirmation service taking place at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 28.
  • A reminder to all card lovers out there!  There’s an afternoon card party happening on Monday, May 29, at 2 p.m.  Bring your own cards, your goody basket, and $6 for admission, and you are set for an afternoon of fun.
  • Don’t forget the special meeting at the Ascension on May 31, at 7 p.m. to hear more about ‘Setting Sail’ – the new initiative of the diocese.
  • The next free community take-out meal for those in need will be this evening, May 17.  If you need a meal, it can be picked up from 5 to 6 p.m. at the entrance to the Church of the Good Shepherd.

That’s it folks,
Have a great weekend!
Jean (On behalf of the Ascension)
