Thursday, January 18 to Thursday, January 25 is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – a long-standing annual observance involving Christian communities throughout the world.  In connection with this Week, the St. John’s and Area Council of Churches hosted an ecumenical service this past Sunday at the Salvation Army Citadel.

Not just this week, but every week we should focus on the chosen theme for this year’s Christian Unity “You shall love the Lord your God…and your neighbour as yourself.”

A few reminders for you:

  • Confirmation candidates – your next Confirmation preparation class will be on Sunday, January 28 at 2 p.m.
  • Also, on January 28 at 11 a.m. there will be a family service followed by a social hour in the Auditorium.  We appreciate your help in providing some cookies and sandwiches as always – thank you so much!
  • Once again there will be a hot, free take-out meal ready for those who could use one at the entrance to the Church of the Good Shepherd this evening from 5 to 6 p.m.  Special thanks to all those who make this possible.
  • This is a reminder for those men who plan to attend the service and dinner meeting of DAMA on Sunday, January 28.  You are asked to please RSVP by tomorrow, January 25 to Gary King at 709-691-3902 or Harvey Hiscock at 709-697-5280.
  • Church calendars are available for $6 each and can be purchased after the 11 a.m. service or from the office from Monday to Friday.
  • You have the opportunity to be entertained by Jacobs Passage!! On Thursday, February 22, there is going to be a potluck supper with entertainment by Jacob’s Passage.  If you are interested, please take a tag from the board at the entrance of the church and prepare to bring that dish to the supper which will be at 6 p.m. on February 22.  All are invited to this lovely get-together.
  • Please remember those in need when you do your grocery shopping.  The food bank desperately needs our donations.

That’s it folks!
Keep warm, God Bless!
Jean (On behalf of the Ascension)
