In Confirmation we express a commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a Bishop.

Confirmation at The Parish of the Ascension is a faith journey for young people age 11 years and older. Registration takes place on Welcome Back Sunday in September. Young people must be 11 years of age or older by December 31st of that calendar year.

Deciding to be confirmed means that you are ready to take on promises that were made for you by your parents and godparents at your baptism. These promises and other aspects of the church are explored and instructed throughout the confirmation classes. The service of Confirmation usually takes place around Ascensiontide, in May of each year.

Classes take place on Sunday afternoons from 2 – 4 pm during the months of October to May, exception being December. These classes are mandatory for all candidates to attend and follow the confirmation program. If classes have to be rescheduled because of unforeseen circumstances, there will be make-up classes at another time. We have a team of confirmation teachers who instruct the classes and help the candidates to become members of our church family.

All candidates are also required to attend ONE Sunday service each Sunday until the time of confirmation. This is an excellent way for the candidates to learn more about worshipping at The Ascension and they are also encouraged to participate in the various church services throughout the year.

Topics of Instruction

  • Holy Baptism
  • Holy Eucharist
  • Commandments, Creeds and the Lord’s Prayer
  • The Holy Scripture and Prayer
  • The Church
  • Symbols, Vestments and Furnishings
  • Seasons and Principal Feasts
  • The Sacraments

Our confirmation candidates also participate in several outreach programs during the year such as assisting with the Seniors Christmas event, filling Christmas hampers, serving the meal at the PWRDF luncheon in Lent, creating the Easter garden on Palm Sunday and helping with the various community projects throughout the year.
