It has been said that ‘the 40 days leading up to Easter can be some of the most life-giving, perspective-changing, hope-filled days of the year.’ Hopefully with God’s help we are all having some of those days during our Lenten journey.

  • The Lenten service (BCP Service of Compline) continues at 7 p.m. each Wednesday.  This evening, following the theme ‘Silent Witnesses,’ our guest preacher, Reverend Jolene Peters, will be giving a testimony from the perspective of ‘the spear.’
  • Again, this morning Archdeacon Nancy will be having the Bible Study at 10:30.  Come and hear about James, a follower of Jesus, and learn about the effect his encounter with Jesus had on him.  (We also have a cup of tea with treats! )
  • There is still lots of room in our food bank bins! Please aim to drop off an item or two to help those who rely on the food bank to get them through the week.
  • Please mark your calendars for Thursday, April 11, if you are interested in a spring dinner (hot roast beef dinner with all the trimmings and blueberry pudding for dessert) with entertainment by The Salt Meat Junkies.  Tickets ($30 each) are available after the 11 a.m. service and at the church office weekdays until noon.  These tickets sell quickly, so book early!!
  • On March 20, the church of the Ascension is hosting the Community Supper at the Church of the Good Shepherd. If you would like to assist in preparing this meal from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on that day, please call Roger Learning.  Thanks so much!
  • It is good to hear that we have a number of new sidespersons!! If you do not have a name tag, please indicate that on the schedule which is posted on the bulletin board in the side foyer.
  • The collection of books for the CFUW Giant Book Sale 2024 is still ongoing!  All details were given in the Chimes during the last few Sundays.  Please take note – your support is greatly appreciated.
  • Ascension Café workers – new schedules are posted in the side foyer.
  • Don’t forget the Lenten Outreach Project – your donations will be presented to a representative from the St. Vincent de Paul Bank at the Palm Sunday service.  Thanks for your support!
  • As you know, our AGM went ahead last Sunday.  If you couldn’t attend, you can still go to the parish’s Facebook page where you view the service each Sunday, and the AGM was recorded and is attached to the end of the service.  Just move through the service until you reach the beginning of the meeting.  (On that note, if at any time you would like anything further relative to the parish/church posted, just let me know by responding to this email and I will post it for you on the Parish Facebook page.)

May God journey with you during Lent,
Jean (On behalf of the Ascension)
