Yesterday, April 23, marked the death of Saint George, the Patron Saint of England, who is said to have died around AD 303.  He is commemorated as a Christian martyr, dying for his faith when he refused to make a sacrifice in honour of pagan gods. Apparently, he was also seen as the personification of the ideals of Christian chivalry especially courage, justice, honour, and a readiness to help the weak – attributes that are admired in any human being.
