April is Volunteer Appreciation Month – the time when we celebrate and recognize the contribution of volunteers.   We in particular thank those who so willing give of their time and talent for the benefit of our parish, and we also commend those who devote many hours to helping others within our community.  (My apologies for not mentioning this last month; however, it doesn’t hurt to send this message often.)

I am sure you have heard the following quote regarding volunteering, but it warrants repeating: “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands – one for helping yourself, the other for helping others.” (Audrey Hepburn)

A few important notes for you:

  • If you are taking a break from cooking on May 14 and planning to enjoy the cold plate supper from church, arrange to pick up your ticket soon.  The cost is $20 and both eat-in or take-out tickets are available.  Donations of cookies will be gratefully accepted. For an added treat, the Sweet Forget-me-Nots will be entertaining you that evening.
  • Another free community take-out supper is available this evening, Wednesday, May 1, at the entrance to the Church of the Good Shepherd between 5 and 6 p.m.  If you or someone you know would like one, please come by.
  • The next 8:30 service using the Book of Common Prayer will be on Sunday, May 12, which will be followed by the Ascension Café.
  • On Thursday, May 9, the Queen’s College Convocation will be held at our church.  There will be a reception in the auditorium following the service which will include refreshments.  Contributions of food items such as sandwiches, muffins, cookies, etc. will be gratefully appreciated.  You can drop them by the church by noon on that day.  Thank you!
  • Vestry members, your next meeting is tomorrow, Thursday, May 2, at 7 p.m.  If you cannot attend in person, please let Archdeacon Nancy know and she will invite you via Zoom.
  • The next Confirmation Preparation Class will be on Sunday, May 12, from 2 to 4 p.m.  Candidates, you are expected to be there!
  • And for all the card players out there, your next card party is Monday, May 6, at 2 p.m.  For just $6 and your own cards and baskets, come and enjoy the afternoon with your friends.
  • Just as important as always, please remember those in need when you pick up your groceries this week.  There is always room in our food bank box for more.  Thanks for those who donate regularly!
